Castello Tesino

Description

Castello Tesino is a town in the province of Trento, one of the largest of the three centers of the Tesino Valley, nestled on the plateau which has the same name, between the Mount Picosta and Mount Agaro, at 940 meters above sea level. A popular resort during both the Summer and the Winter Seasons, also thanks to the recent renovations completed to the nearby ski-lift of Marande Brocon. In addition, extensive woodlands, mountain paths, underground lakes and the steep climbing walls of the nearby Peak of Asta, make this place an ideal destination for nature lovers and extreme sport fans.
On the Hill of St. Hippolytus, remains of a settlement that dates back to the VI - V centuries B.C. have been found, on which, during the colonization by the Roman Empire, a fortress was built. The Romans also built the Via Claudia Augusta Altinate, which linked Altino to Augsburg and to the Danube. In the Middle Ages, a small town centre arose around the fortress, granted to Count Biagio of the Castelare.

Sites of Interest:
- the archeological excavations;
- the Roman bridge;
- the medieval Church of St. Hippolytus, with its precious cycle of frescoes;
- the picturesque Cavern of Castello Tesino;
- the Park la Cascatella;
- the Flower Trodo of Passo Brocon;
- the Wood Museum.
