Latium
Description
Rome is the regional capital of Latium, in addition of being the capital of Italy. Rich in artistic, cultural and historical masterpieces, the Eternal City inevitably captures the attention of every tourist. But Latium is not just Rome and Roman period. Equally interesting are the Etruscan necropolis of Cerveteri, Tarquinia and Tuscania (VII-VI century BC), the beautiful Villa Adriana in Tivoli (where the Renaissance style Villa d'Este can also be found), the XVII century Palazzo Barberini in Palestrina, the Cathedral of Anagni, the abbeys of Montecassino, Casamari and Fossanova, as well as the Benedictine monasteries of Sacro Speco and Santa Scolastica in Subiaco. It is a region with an extraordinary variety of landscapes: wide beaches, pinewoods, mountains like Terminillo (excellent ski resort), hills, plains and lakes.
