A small farming town of the Lomellina area in the southern province of Pavia, Scaldasole is mentioned for the first time in a document of 982, in which the village, at that time, already had its own castle. The town's name may derive from the fact that during the Lombard domination, the country hosted a "fara", which is a judicial and administrative court, ruled by a "sculdascius" (skuldhaizo) employed by the Earl of Lomello.
Besides the mansions of the XIX century stands the Castle, the symbol of Scaldasole, which at present features elements of the XV century, belonged to the Pico della Mirandola Family and, subsequently, to the Malaspina and the Strada Families. It is one among the most interesting of buildings throughout the region and consists of complex of fortified houses, built around a large courtyard and the castle becomes part of the residential area. The impressive four towers stand at each corner, while a fifth stands above at the main portal entrance.
