San Paolo Albanese

Description

San Paolo Albanese is one of the smallest villages of Basilicata, located in the heart of the National Park of the Pollino. Part of the State of Noia (today Noepoli), the village was uninhabited for a long while, until it was colonized by a group of Albanian refugees from Koroni, during the Turkish occupation of their country. The local inhabitants still keep alive a lot of the Albanians traditions, usages, customs and they also speak an Albanian dialect.
Not to miss:
- the Church of the Cross, built in the XIX century on the remains of an existing building;
- the Church of San Rocco (XVII century);
- the Chapel of St. Francis;
- the former Palazzo Smilari (XVII century);
- Palazzo Blumetti (XVIII century);
- the Museum of Arbereshe Civilization;
- the Archaeological Area in the district of Cirionte.
