The healing properties of the thermal waters were already known to Greeks and Romans: these one, in particular, built several spas in Campania (a territory deeply affected by geological and hydrothermal phenomenon), as it is possible to see in the numerous archaeological remains.
Ischia is the European capital of thermal holidays, thanks to its 29 thermal basins, 67 stacks and 103 springs.
Other important spas are located in the Phlegrean Fields Area (Agnano and Baia), along the coast (Castellamare di Stabia and Scrajo, at Vico Equense), in the province of Salerno (Contursi Terme and Montesano sulla Marcellana), in the province of Avellino (San Teodoro spas), in the province of Benevento (San Salvatore Telesino and Telese) and in the province of Caserta (Mondragone and Roccamonfina).
