Cecina

Description

Cecina, set on the left bank of the homonymous river, was inhabited both by the Etruscans and by the Romans, as the archaeological remains preserved at the Guerrazzi Museum and the Roman villa owned by the consul Albino Cecina testify.
During the Middle Age Cecina was mentioned by Dante in the Poem XIII of the Hell, when identified the borders of the Maremma between Cecina and Corneto.
The second half of the XIX century has seen an important demographic and economic growth of the area, thanks to the reclamation works conducted by Leopold III.
We suggest a visit to the Cathedral, built by Leopold II in 1851 in which the "Crocifissione dei Dolenti" by Vincenzo lami is preserved, to the Civic Archaeological Museum in Villa Guerrazzi and to the "Museo della Vita e del Lavoro della Maremma Settentrionale" (Museum of Northern Maremma Life and Labour).
