Sale Marasino
Description
Town in the province of Brescia, overlooking Lake Iseo, Sale Marasino was founded from the union of two separate villages: Sale, near the lake, and Marasino, a hillside town inhabited since Roman times. In the Middle Ages the monks gave impetus to agriculture, thanks to the reclamation of wetlands.
The beautiful and picturesque lake village is dominated by an XVIII century Church entitled to St. Zeno, who appears on the façade overlooking the lake with an entrance staircase of marble balustrade: inside it is possible to admire frescoes by Giovan Francesco Gaggini. Other religious buildings of great architectural value are the Church of St. Peter of the Disciplines (XVI century), the Church of Santa Maria della Neve, the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate.
There are also numerous villas and palaces of the local nobility, such as Villa Mazzucchelli and Villa Martinengo, both built in the XVI century.
