Agerola
Description
Surrounded by the Lattari mountains, Agerola is characterized by an untouched environment. The discovery of rustic villas, amphorae, oil lamps, vases and money belonging to the first Caesars of Rome confirm that it has been inhabited since the ancient Roman times. Its name derives from the Latin "ager" that means "cultivated land": in fact the economy is mainly based on the agriculture. The history of Agerola was linked to the events of the towns of the Amalfi coast; however, thanks to its independent economy this village never suffered famine that often hit on the coastal population.
Agerola also offer breathtaking views of the Amalfi coast (Castello Lauritano, Punta San Lazzaro, Punta Belvedere and Parco Corona).
It is known for its cheese production, including the highly appreciated Fior di Latte.
