Mantello
Description
It is a small town of the Lower Valtellina area, located on the right bank of the river Adda. It was mentioned for the first time in a document of 864 and since ancient times it was an important transit center, thanks to the presence of a wooden bridge, built to facilitate the crossing of the River. Mantello is the second largest municipality of the Cech Coast on the via Valeriana.
According to Giustino Renato Orsini, the town's name derives from "Mantu", the name of an Etruscan god of the underworld.
Interesting is the provostal Church of Saints Marco, Colombano and Gregorio, whose origins date back to the XIV century, expanded and renovated several times over the centuries, it features a gilded wooden tabernacle.
