Ponti sul Mincio

Description

Town of medieval origins, located in the province of Mantua, in the hinterland of Lake Garda, North of the Regional Park of the Mincio. Ponti sul Mincio lies at the foot of a castle, historically included in Scaligera Family's defensive system. It was built between the XII and the XIV century by the Scala Family, that with the other castles of Monzambano, Valeggio, Nogarole, Peschiera, Sirmione, formed a natural border, towards South-west, with the territories that belonged to the Visconti and the Gonzaga. It appears as a simple enclosure of walls interspersed with towers, with connecting corridors (in some places collapsed).
Interesting is also the Parish Church of Sant'Antonio Abate of the XVI century, and features traces of XV century frescoes and a valuable painting of the brothers Giovanni and Martino Meves of XVIII century.
