Albori (Vietri sul Mare)

Description

Albori is a hamlet of the town of Vietri sul Mare, perched on the eastern side of a valley, at the foot of the Falerzio Mount; it is characterized by a particular urban network.
The village is surely of marine origin and in the winter months, when sailing was not possible, the people cultivated whatever bits of land were tillable on the mountainside.
The origin of the name is uncertain: someone suggests that it can derive from Arvo, one of Jason's Argonauts who, following a storm, decided to settle here; others suppose that it can derive from Albolo, a Goth or Longobard man; finally the name could also designate the place where trees (albores) were cut in the ancient time, in order to built ships.
In the main square there is the church dedicated to Santa Margherita; inside the church there are admirable frescoes by the Neapolitan school.
