Lezzeno

Description

A town located on the eastern shore of Lake Como, along the panoramic road that leads from Como to Bellagio, Lezzeno has a clear Roman origin, as illustrated by a fragment of tombstone dating back to the I-II century A.D. walled in side the steeple of the church. With its many hamlets, located partly along the coast, and the surrounding hills, it is a popular residential centre.
Nearby it is possible to visit the Cave of the Bulbari, also known as of the Carps, reachable only by boat and famous for the colour effects that are created by the sunlight, as well as the white cliffs of Grosgalle and the Blue Grotto, which is famous for water reflections on the inside walls.
Interesting from the architectural point of view are:

- the Parish Church of Saints Quirico and Julietta, with a splendid fresco by Giulio Quaglio in the sanctuary;

- the Oratory of Santa Marta, with frescoes and stucco work of the XVI and XVII centuries;

- the baroque Church of St. Joseph, near the lake;

- Villa Citterio (XVII century),

- the Church of Our Lady of the strains (XV century) and the Church of the Holy Trinity.
