Gioia Sannitica is overlooked by Mount Monaco and Mount Erbano, part of Matese mountain range. It is characterized by grottoes and Karst crevasses; on a high cliff there is the castle, that protects the valley.
On Mount Monaco you can find the Briganti grotto where, according to the legend, a box full of gold moneys was hidden. Moreover it was said that in the dense forest of "Campo del Monaco" lived a hermit who usually helped the passers-by.
The economy is based on agriculture, especially on wine and olive oil production.
