Viticuso

Description

A picturesque farming town of the Ciociaria area in the province of Frosinone, Viticuso is the most eastern municipality of the region of Lazio, surrounded by a predominantly karstic area, on the border with the region of Molise, the province of Isernia and the territories of Venafro. The village was founded in the Middle Ages by the monks of Monte Cassino, nearby the Lake Viticuso (now dried up). It later submitted the domain of the Normans, the Lords of Venafro, that built a castle, whose ruins are still visible, despite the earthquake of 1915 and the bombing of the Second World War.
Sites of Interest:
- the Church of St. Anthony, built on the site where the Benedictine decided to build it, next to the castle, in the year 1003 (evidenced by an inscription found on a building adjacent to the church, with the symbol of the monks Benedictine);
- the Church of Santa Maria Assunta;
- the wind farm park.
