Paderno del Grappa

Description

Municipality in the province of Treviso, on the slopes of Monte Grappa, on the border with the territories of Vicenza and Belluno, the town of Paderno del Grappa is situated on a plateau surrounded and protected by the mountains. Overall, the region is characterized by great heterogeneity and the presence of numerous rivers.
The documents discovered around the year 1029 evidence that in the Fietta area there was a castle that was granted to the Bishop of Belluno by Emperor Conrad II the Salic. During the Middle Ages one could distinguish five main districts: Coi of Paderno, Fietta, Farra, Canil and San Paolo of Lastego, which gathered into two main centres during the XV century. The territory, from the first half of the XIV century until the conquest by Napoleon, belonged to the Venetian Serenissima Republic. At this stage the political stability and relative peace that was ensued, improved the country economic and demographic development. The inhabitants were directly involved in the fighting of World War I suffering considerable losses and damage.

Attractions:
- the Parish Church of Paderno, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, was built in the second half of the XVIII century and features a neoclassical façade with four half-columns with bases and capitals and tympanum. The church is flanked by a Bell Tower, embellished by pilasters, the cell has two lancet windows on each side and is surmounted by a drum and an ampoule shaped dome;
- the Church of Our Lady of Grace alle Fusere, presents very simple features with a gable roof and only a circular window to interrupt the regularity of the façade;
- the XIV century Church of St Andrew, which houses a Baroque altar of the early XVII century and a blade of the artist Da Ponte;
- Villa Fietta, built in the XV century, whose structure was severely compromised by the earthquake that struck the Veneto in the late XVII century. It was rebuilt shortly afterwards, and in subsequent years underwent several changes, including the addition of a chapel and two wings sides;
- the Town Hall.
